Over time it became apparent to us that our clients have made and continue to make a significant contribution to the social fabric of our local community. A great many of us also realise that each of the persons in our client community (particularly those of Italian heritage) had a story to tell as well as being the holders of traditional information of cultural significance that may be lost to us on their passing. We felt that it was important to take steps to help preserve some of this for future generations.
Our organisation wanted to do something to help preserve this history. Out of this was born the idea to publish a book of traditional Italian recipes. These were to be collated mainly from our clients but generally from people of Italian heritage in our community. We hope this will help preserve for future generations a little bit of the food history of each of our contributors. This, when taken together with other works, should create more understanding of the history of some of the migrant families in the Granite Belt.
